Responsibilities

This position is responsible for preparing various blood products utilizing safety and quality standards outlined by regulatory and accrediting institutions and ensuring the timely sampling and testing of QC samples.  

 

Reports to Position:

This position does not supervise staff.

 

Supervision of Positions:

Under general supervision of assigned managerial staff

 

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for preparing various blood products utilizing safety and quality standards outlined by regulatory and accrediting institutions and ensuring the timely sampling and testing of QC samples.  

 

QC Laboratory Tech I duties:

  • Obtain samples for quality control or requested testing from various products as assigned
  • Perform testing on samples/products following departmental SOPs to meet standards of regulatory agencies
  • Label a variety of blood products and perform release duties as assigned
  • Manufacture platelets into appropriate configurations according to department procedures
  • Responds to environmental /storage alarms and perform corrective action when necessary
  • Performs general laboratory maintenance as applicable
  • Perform daily equipment and analyzer maintenance and QC.
  • Perform data entry into BECs
  • Performs bacterial testing on platelet products
  • Uphold a level of customer service that ensures the expectations of the end user are met.
  • Assist with performing required equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control on assigned instrumentations

 

QC Laboratory Technician II duties:

  • Identify, investigate, troubleshoot and perform corrections, if applicable, and quarantine when required for all non-conforming products. Communicate all problems that may adversely affect products to appropriate supervisor/designee
  • Manage holds on blood component products, as instructed
  • Independently performs review of records for product release
  • Ensures quality monitoring is complete for blood components and tracks amount tested to meet monthly requirements per regulatory agencies
  • Maintain sufficient reagent stock and other necessary department supplies. Notify appropriate supervisor/designee when levels are low.
  • Recognizes and reports to superiors' problems encountered during performance of job tasks including equipment malfunction, deviation from standard operating procedure, unusual results, and discrepancy in test controls or controls outside established normal limits.
  • Follows laboratory policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications

 

QC Laboratory Technician III duties:

  • Training and competency as assigned.
  • Collaborate on controlled document creation and revision.
  • Identify, perform corrections, if applicable, and quarantine when required for all non-conforming products. Communicate all problems that may adversely affect products to appropriate supervisor/designee

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education:

Associate's degree in medical laboratory technology (MLT). 

 

Or

 

Bachelor of Science degree in chemical or biological science.

 

Related Experience:

Internal:  A minimum of 1 year as a QC technician II.   Must meet department policy requirements for promotion.

 

This is a 40 hour 2nd shift position: 3-11:30pm, rotating weekends, rotating holidays

 

Offers made to an individual candidate will depend on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, and job-related education. 

 

The proposed hourly wage range for this role is $25.15/hr
